A claim for damages was filed against George Tiller, a partial-birth abortionist, by Mark Gietzen, President of the Kansas Coalition for Life, on October 30th, 2007 in Sedgwick County, Kansas.  The claim alledges that Tiller struck Gietzen while Gietzen was standing in front of the Women’s Health Care Services, an abortion mill which is owned by Tiller.  According to Gietzen, the hit-and-run incident caused him to sustain injuries to his arms and legs.

In an interview with ProLifeNews.tv on November 9th, 2007, Gietzen stated:

“Tiller saw us standing there and deliberately drove at us.  Since we didn’t know which way he was going to turn, Randy jumped in one direction and I tried to go in another, but Tiller drove straight into me”

Gietzen thinks that Tiller was angry because the day before, Tiller tried to get a federal case against Randy Blasi, a Pro-Life member of the kcfl.net effort called the continuous presence, and perhaps Tiller was mad because they were not able to.

ProLifeNews.tv interviewed Mark Gietzen in June 2007. Gietzen runs the only known continuous presence at an abortion facility.  The continuous presence ensures that there is a Pro-Life representative praying and sidewalk counseling in front of Tiller’s facility every minute of every day that he is open.

“Each day that the Tiller Abortion Facility is open for business, KCFL volunteers set 167 white Crosses on city property adjacent to Tiller’s building.  Each cross represents a child that was killed at the facility during the previous month.
(167 is calculated from Tiller’s reported numbers)”

Gietzen also uses chalk to write words on the entry of the abortion facility.  Words and statements like “Stop” and Abortion kills Babies” are written…

Gietzen’s claim is for $4000.00.  When asked why it was for such a low amount, Gietzen stated that he wasn’t trying to get rich, just see justice served, and the case was more likely to get dragged on forever through the courts if the claim would have been for more.

The following is a statement from the claim, describing the incident:

After backing out of his parking garage, Tiller paused momentarily, facing us, just looking at us. (Randy and I were standing on Bleckley Street, immediately next to the “center-gutter-block” where Randy occasionally kneels to pray.)

To our surprise, Tiller floored his accelerator, and aimed his Jeep directly at us!

He was accelerating rapidly, and as he got closer, I could see that he was not smiling. (At first I had thought that he was just trying to scare us playfully, because Tiller often does odd things as he comes and goes. Sometimes he gives us the stiff “middle finger”, or he holds up a framed cut-out of an Eagle Cartoon from December 2005, which he keeps in his Jeep, that depicts me as a crazy reindeer… sometimes he pretends to laugh at it, while pointing at it, or at times, he just gives us a seemingly friendly toot-toot of his horn as he passes dangerously close, with no harm intended ...just to scare us.)

As he was coming toward us, I thought that he was going to veer to the left, or to the right of us, and simply leave, as this is his normal time to go home for the day.

However, as Tiller got closer to us, he did not veer left or right, as I expected that he would. Rather, he aimed his vehicle directly at us, continuing to accelerate as he got closer!

As he came through the gate, he was going too fast to make a turn without hitting his brakes, and at the very last minute, he hit his brakes to allow a turn and avoid hitting the Truth-truck. The Truth-truck was parked on the west side of Bleckley Street.

We would have jumped out of his way immediately, but we did not know which way he was going to turn, north or south, on Bleckley, and we did not want to step into what would have been his normal path to leave.
In any case, Tiller certainly did scare us, and as he got close, I could see from the expression on his face that he was very mad, and that he was not joking around.

As he came upon us, and a collision was imminent, I dashed to the south, and Randy went north to get out of his way!
However, as I took steps backwards and south, I used my hands, placed on the hood of his vehicle to keep from being hit by it. Tiller responded by intentionally steering toward me, hitting me in both legs with his front bumper, pushing me with his vehicle about three feet. His headlight hit my buttocks and I was hit on my right elbow and my right hand, thumb and index finger by his fender and or his left side mirror.

Gietzen also told ProLifeNews.tv:

“Everybody should follow the law, and Tiller should not be allowed to hit someone with his vehicle and get away with it.  He should be held accountable like any other person”

By United States law, Tiller’s facility is allowed to kill human beings in the womb all the way up to the moment of delivery, but not if they survive his methods of killing.  It is not likely the children will survive though since the babies are killed in advance of the abortion, and delivered dead 2 days after.

We can’t help but note a bit of irony in the words on a sign which is posted on the fence of the Tiller abortion mill.  “Approved Deliveries Only”
